About Us

Bill and Kristine Messick have owned and operated GPS Driving School since its founding in 2016. The school has taught over 2,000 students how to drive safely.

The school employs five (6) DMV-certified driving instructors.  They provides driver's education for teens seeking their North Carolina learner's permit as well as driving lessons to adults of all skill levels.  

GPS Driving School is fully certified by the North Carolina to provide drivers education for teens as well as behind-the-wheel instruction.

Bill Messick

Bill Messick

Bill graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988 and began his career as an automobile insurance adjuster for Great American Insurance Company.

In 2000, Bill obtained his law degree from North Carolina Central University. His main area of practice is civil litigation, focusing on accident and insurance disputes.

Bill coached youth basketball for ten seasons at the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association, where he was well-received by players and parents. Bill enjoys coaching young adults and sharing his knowledge and experience with new drivers.

Kristine Messick

Kristine Messick

Kristine Messick obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. She worked for 27 years at Wake County Human Services before retiring in 2016. As a public health nurse, Kristine educated and counseled many teens. As a driver's education instructor, she similarly teaches teens to be safe and responsible drivers.

Adam Hamrick

Adam Hamrick has been teaching driver's education since 2013. He holds a master's degree in Health Education from East Carolina University and teaches Health and Physical Education at Riverbend Middle School in Raleigh. He resides in Clayton with his wife, a 2-year-old daughter, and a son, born October 18, 2021.

Gary Smith

Gary Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Park Point University in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2016, he retired from Indspec Chemical in Petrolia, PA. Gary has a daughter who lives in Clayton and teaches at Southside Christian School. He has 2 grandchildren, ages 10 and 14, who attend Southside. In his spare time, Gary enjoys playing pickleball and spending time with his family.

Adam Meder

Adam retired from the Angier Police Department in 2021, after serving 20 years in law enforcement. Adam has four children - Destiny, Kimberly, David, and Eden. His two oldest daughters attend NCSU and Johnston Community College, his youngest daughter, Eden, attends West View Elementary, and his son, David, is a Junior at Cleveland High School. His wife is from Falcon, N.C. and works for a tech company in the Bay Area.  In his spare time, Adam enjoys working on cars and spending time with his family.

Edgar Johnson

In 2015, Edgar retired from the US Department of Justice in Butner, NC having worked there for 26 years.  In his last position, he served as a special agent and trainer for the Office of Internal Affairs for the federal prison system.   He is a native of Batesville, MS and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.  Edgar is well-received by his students and is known for a calm and pleasant demeanor.
